Welcome to GodSpirit

This blog is for those of us who are fed up with how God has been portrayed -- fed up with organized religion! But at the same time those of us who have just about given up on the 21st century church still have longing to be "spiritual" -- to seek and know that whom we call "God."

I began this blog in 2008 when Sabine, my wife, was suddenly diagnosed with a fatal blood cancer. I couldn't continue parish ministry. It was just too much. But since that time, we both have returned to part-time ministry and I have continued to reflect things spiritual in this blog.

Don't get me wrong, I continue to serve "organized religion." That's because I still have hope for this institution.

As Sabine's caregiver, I had maintained a blog as her caregiver (See "My Cancer Blog" on this page). So, I thought, why not another blog? Why not write about my journey with God during the cancer and all the ups and downs life presents to us and see if my experience has some resonance with others?

On Christmas Eve (2020), after a 12-year on and off struggle with a terminal cancer (multiple myeloma) and kidney failure the love of my life died in my arms at home. As she began to die, we made beauty out of grief. It is possible.
