There's Hope For Us!

I have always thought there was a link between spirituality and dance. In my tradition, I am reminded that David publicly danced before the Ark of God with all his might! (2 Samuel 6:14). Why wouldn't we show our love for the Almighty by using our whole body -- our voice in song, in our words, and, yes, in body movement -- dance!

Over the years we have seen on YouTube various "flash gatherings" that come together and sing and dance without notice in public places -- from Grand Central Station to a government employment office.

This morning I simply couldn't stop smiling after seeing this video and thinking how wonderful the world really is beyond network news. Enjoy. Smile. And why not dance along? (I couldn't help it even if Sabine was watching!)

Welcome to GodSpirit

This blog is for those of us who are fed up with how God has been portrayed -- fed up with organized religion! But at the same time those of us who have just about given up on the 21st century church still have longing to be "spiritual" -- to seek and know that whom we call "God."

I began this blog in 2008 when Sabine, my wife, was suddenly diagnosed with a fatal blood cancer. I couldn't continue parish ministry. It was just too much. But since that time, we both have returned to part-time ministry and I have continued to reflect things spiritual in this blog.

Don't get me wrong, I continue to serve "organized religion." That's because I still have hope for this institution.

As Sabine's caregiver, I had maintained a blog as her caregiver (See "My Cancer Blog" on this page). So, I thought, why not another blog? Why not write about my journey with God during the cancer and all the ups and downs life presents to us and see if my experience has some resonance with others?

On Christmas Eve (2020), after a 12-year on and off struggle with a terminal cancer (multiple myeloma) and kidney failure the love of my life died in my arms at home. As she began to die, we made beauty out of grief. It is possible.
