Her poem, “Still I
Rise” (1978) has been one of Maya Angelou’s best-loved and most influential poems. In
it, Angelou talks about resilience and dignity of the human spirit. It is an
uplifting piece that will hopefully cause those of us who hear it to remember why it is
"we rise!"
"You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise..."
